When Intervet Schering-Plough issued an urgent recall notice of PreveNile® West Nile Virus vaccine for horses earlier this month, we knew we had to help spread the word. That’s why we sent an announcement to each of the roughly 20,000 AVMA members who have opted-in to receive AVMA e-mail alerts related to animal and public health.
Granted, not everyone who received the PreveNile® alert was directly affected by the recall. But we decided to cast a wide net by not limiting distribution to only those with an equine focus. The more information we could get out there, we thought, the better. In fact, we also posted news of the recall on our AVMA Facebook page, in our Twitter feeds and on our Web site. (If you’re a Facebook or Twitter user and haven’t connected with us yet, you can do so from our home page.)
Our members are finding these alerts to be invaluable in keeping up with breaking developments in veterinary medicine. And if you haven’t already seen the list of what’s available to you electronically from the AVMA, take a look. There’s a lot that’s waiting for you. And by being proactive and signing up for the information you want, you won’t have to wait to get the information you need.
