Well, this is my last AVMA@Work as AVMA president. I want to thank each and every one of you for giving me the privilege of representing you – the valued members of this terrific profession – as I have traveled this great country of ours and have visited a few international destinations.
From Maine to Hawaii, and from Alaska to Puerto Rico, the journey has certainly been a dream. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and mingle with the leaders of state veterinary medical associations, allied organizations, leaders of international veterinary associations and their supporting staffs.
I have tried to share the “AVMA Story” with people around the world. At the same time, I have shared with host states the ways in which other states have handled common issues. I have certainly expanded my veterinary medical horizons and accumulated a lot of “continuing education” along the way.
I’ve had a wonderful time, and there is not enough space to list all the great aspects of this incredible journey. I do want to thank the exemplary staff members at AVMA, both past and current, who have assisted me in this adventure. I appreciate the great leadership of Dr. Bruce Little, our past executive vice president, and Dr. Ron DeHaven, our current executive vice president and CEO.
I also wish great success to my successor, Dr. Larry Kornegay of Texas. May he enjoy his journey as much as I have mine.
