The Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) recently launched a new Business Center Portal to provide business owners with the necessary tools for compliance with privacy and information security requirements and consumer protection laws. The Business Center contains a variety of information regarding advertising and marketing, credit and finance, and privacy and security.
The Business Center also provides a link to a more specific page dedicated to privacy and security issues. The Privacy and Security page contains legal resources including: (1) case highlights; (2) laws, rules and guides, (3) reports and workshops, and (4) compliance documents. In addition, it contains resources for data security, health privacy and the Red Flags Rule.
On December 7th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation exempting veterinarians and other health care professionals from the Red Flags Rule. The legislation will be set before the President for his signature by the end of the year prior to the December 31, 2010 enforcement of the rule.
Even if veterinarians become exempt from the Red Flags Rule, the new FTC Business Center Portal will be an asset to veterinary practices in their efforts to comply with FTC rules and regulations.
