It’s Decision Time in District II, as Board Election Draws Near

Although the current weather here in Illinois isn’t too convincing, spring is approaching. Spring brings new activity, and that includes Executive Board elections.

This year, Dr. John Brooks and Dr. John Scamahorn both complete their six-year terms of service on the Board. Because he ran unopposed, Dr. Chester L. “Chet” Rawson of Markesan, Wis., will take Dr. Scamahorn’s position as the District VI Director on the Board, serving Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

But for District II, which covers Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia, we’ve got two candidates vying for the position. One candidate, Dr. Charles S. Dunn, is from Media, Pa. The second candidate, Dr. Mark Helfat, is from Mount Laurel, N.J.

Keep in mind that only AVMA members from District II can vote in this election to choose their District Director. If you’re not familiar with the process, here’s how it will go:

  • By March 1, we’ll have information available on our website about the candidates and their qualifications;
  • Ballots will be mailed to all AVMA members in District II by March 1. They are due back to the AVMA by April 1.

We’ll also notify District II members by email (Do we have your email address? If not, please update your member profile asap!) about the upcoming election, and there will be updates on our website, NOAH and social media.

Your AVMA Executive Board District Directors take their responsibility seriously. So take the time to learn about the candidates and vote for the one who you feel best represents your interests. By doing so, you’ll show them that you care too.
