AVMA warns of false claims by credit card processing company

Thanks to our members, AVMA has recently become aware of a company who is wrongfully representing themselves as having an established partnership with the AVMA.  We want you to be aware of the potential for deceptive claims and let you know how easy it is to verify whether or not a program is actually offered by the AVMA.

This particular company claims to have an AVMA member benefit program that provides discounts for members who sign up for their credit card processing services.  Veterinarians have been receiving unsolicited phone calls and messages that reference an “AVMA endorsed program” and that a “representative from AVMA” is calling.  However, no such partnership exists and AVMA is not making the calls.  The AVMA has notified this company of their wrongdoing and requested them to stop immediately.

AVMA has only one partner when it comes to credit card processing, and that partner is Bank of America Merchant Services.  Bank of America will not call you on behalf of our program, or the AVMA. Rather, if you are interested in credit card processing services, you can contact them directly at 1-888-317-5402.

Anytime you receive unsolicited information about a potential AVMA member benefit program, you can quickly verify AVMA’s involvement (or not) with a program by visiting our website or giving us a call.  Go to our Member Benefits page to view all of the programs we have available.  If it is not listed, then AVMA is not a part of the program.  We also appreciate hearing from our members when you suspect there is a misuse of the AVMA name or logo, so please call us at 1-800-248-2862 or email us avmainfo @avma.org (remove the spaces to get the email address – we post email addresses in this way to prevent the spambots from recognizing them as email addresses).

This is a great reminder to everyone that scams are occurring and can affect anyone. Please review any unsolicited correspondence with caution and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

  1. Bank of America is one of the few banks that has given us outstanding service. Four of my immediate family members have accounts with them, and we have never had a problem.

  2. Your insurance company: HUB call us and always says it’s the AVMA calling. I think that is not only misleading but almost fraudulent.

  3. I am saddened the AVMA has any relationship with Bank of America. Given the well documented and justified overall poor public perception of Bank of America it is disconcerting to be associated with this company in any professional way.

  4. As a practice owner – I receive calls every week from people claiming to be in relations with one of our associations, or suppliers, or lab companies, or electric companies, etc. I do not respond to cold calls anymore, EVER. They are always scams – and smooth talkers as well. If it is important, they will contact you by another means, typically mail.

  5. last year we have encounter with one such company claiming relationship with one of state veterinary association.based on our information they activated merchant processing account with another company, and will not refund any amount charged to our account.after so many efforts we have been able to remove our company name from their list.beware of such company, before you give any information(s)
