Convention 2012: Registration is Open

The sandy beaches, the ocean breeze and the wonderful weather of San Diego, Calif., beckon. But there’s so much more besides location to the AVMA Annual Convention, which this year is being held in “America’s Finest City.”

Join thousands of the best and brightest minds in veterinary medicine for continuing education, networking opportunities and fun in San Diego from Aug. 3-7. Fill your days with some of the best CE available, spanning all spectrums of the profession. You’ll be able to choose from more than 1,000 hours of CE sessions exploring all areas of practice, personal and professional development, technician skills and office management. New session formats, like “Inside the Issues,” allow you to dig deeper and discuss the latest industry developments.

We’ve extended our Exhibit Hall hours this year, and, based on feedback you’ve provided, we’ve scheduled a noncompeting, hourlong break each day so you won’t have to choose between CE and a visit to the Exhibit Hall. We’re also hosting an Exhibit Hall Reception on Saturday, Aug. 4, where you can enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres while you network with exhibitors and fellow attendees.

Entertainment is always a must-see at the AVMA Annual Convention, and this year is no exception. Joan Embery, the famed animal expert from the San Diego Zoo, will give the keynote speech at our Opening Session, which will be emceed by actor and comedian Jay Thomas. Back by popular demand, our AVMA’s Got Talent competition returns this year, giving you the opportunity to showcase your talent on stage before your colleagues and their guests. And the ever-popular AVMA Concert this year will feature the band Smash Mouth, performing their hits like “All Star,” “Walking on the Sun” and the “Shrek” theme song, “I’m a Believer.” Our “Night on the Midway” will certainly be a night to remember. Be sure to check out the USS Midway aircraft carrier on Sunday evening. It’s an even you won’t want to miss.

If you’re looking to customize your convention experience, make sure you check out AVMA MapIt! This interactive web resource lets you plan your convention agenda before you leave home and gives you the convenience of having your schedule literally at your fingertips. To have an even richer Map It! experience, you can rent an iPad during your convention registration process to use for the duration of your visit.

There’s also plenty of opportunity for veterinary technicians. With 96 hours of tech-specific CE and four technician labs, vet-techs can take advantage of hands-on learning opportunities, empowering lectures and interactive discussions. We’re also making it easier for you to encourage your veterinary technicians to attend by offering extra bang for the buck. For every technician registering at full price, a second gets 50 percent off registration fees. It’s an affordable way to bring multiple team members to AVMA’s top-notch technician program.

So why not start planning your 2012 AVMA Annual Convention experience today? You will save up to $100 off the standard registration fee when you register by May 7. And if you book your hotel first, you’ll receive a discount code to save an additional $25 on your registration fee. Can’t wait to see you there!
