AVMA Advocate: AVMA Announces Congressional Fellows for 2012-2013

By Stephanie Fisher, grassroots coordinator, Governmental Relations Division

AVMA-GRD is pleased to announce Dr. Tristan Colonius, Dr. Donald Hoenig and Dr. Kaylee Myhre as the 2012-2013 AVMA Fellows.

The AVMA Fellows work alongside congressional staff members to provide science-based expertise on veterinary and public health-related issues to members of Congress. The fellowship program heightens awareness and enhances the reputation of the veterinary profession on Capitol Hill. Over the coming year, each fellow will use his or her expertise to provide veterinary medical perspectives on matters of national concern, from animal welfare matters to food safety and other issues relating to public health.

Drs. Colonius, Hoenig, and Myhre will begin their fellowships in August 2012.
