AVMA Advocate: Coming to San Diego for AVMA Convention? Meet AVMA-CAN!

By Stephanie Fisher, grassroots coordinator, Governmental Relations Division

The AVMA Congressional Advocacy Network (AVMA-CAN) is heading to San Diego for the 149th Annual AVMA Convention and will be on site August 4-6. We will be in the AVMA Pavilion where you will have the opportunity to voice your concerns directly to Congress through the AVMA-CAN Government Action Center. We will be sending letters from the booth urging members of Congress to oppose the Fairness to Pet Owners Act. Make sure to stop by and talk to us about issues that concern you.

And if you or your friends have not yet signed up to join AVMA-CAN, you can do so at the booth. We’ll be there to help.

AVMAPAC will also be at the AVMA Pavilion. You can cast your vote in the veterinarian straw poll for the next president of the United States and be eligible to win a trip to Washington, D.C. Who do you think veterinarians want to put in office?

If you’re not attending the AVMA Convention this year, you can still stay involved this summer. Make sure you visit the AVMA-CAN Government Action Center and track how your legislators are voting and how issues of concern are developing. In addition, visitors to the website can learn more about the AVMA’s legislative agenda and how they can help advance the veterinary profession in the 112th Congress.
