New Early Career Development Committee Now Forming

Are you or someone you know interested in volunteering on an AVMA entity? The AVMA is looking for volunteers to serve in the new Early Career Development Committee (ECDC). This Committee will work with the AVMA staff to create resources that will impact AVMA members early in their career. About one third of our members are considered Early Career Veterinarians (having graduated in the past 15 years). The AVMA has recognized the need to actively involve these veterinarians in organized veterinary medicine. You can help your fellow colleagues develop the skills to becoming a successful veterinarian and leader in their community. In this ever changing but fulfilling profession, we need to give our younger generation of veterinarians a voice. This is your chance!

The ECDC will consist of 5 Recent Graduates (5 years or less post-graduation), 2 Emerging Leaders (5-15 years post-graduation), a faculty advisor from a college/school of veterinary medicine, and a member of the American Society of Veterinary Medical Association Executives. Nominations are due August 15, 2012Nomination forms and resumes may be emailed to Dr. Carrie Javorka, faxed to (847) 303-5669, or mailed to Membership & Field Services Division, Attention: Dr. Carrie Javorka, 1931 N. Meacham Rd, Suite 100, Schaumburg, IL, 60173. We look forward to receiving your nominations!

  1. For those applying for the Early Career Development Committee, not only can someone nominate you for the position, but you can also nominate yourself. In that case, you would not fill out the bottom portion of the form (“individual or organization submitting nomination”). I had some questions on this, so just wanted to clarify. Thank you!
