As Hurricane Sandy moves inland and the scope of the destruction becomes clear, our thoughts are with all those affected by the storm. The AVMA VMAT teams are on standby and ready to deploy upon a state’s request. The AVMA reached out to veterinary medical associations in 10 states and the District of Columbia. They have reported no unmet needs. The AVMA is participating in nightly status calls with members of the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition (NARSC), state and federal agencies and continues to monitor the situation.
Veterinarians – if your practice is affected by Sandy and you need assistance, check out the American Veterinary Medical Foundation’s (AVMF) disaster grant program.
