Attention Veterinary Students: Want to Make a Difference for Your Profession?

The 5th annual AVMA Student Legislative Fly-In will take place March 4-5, 2013, in Washington, D.C.  The fly-in is a two-day workshop designed to introduce veterinary students to the legislative process and to educate students and members of Congress on public policy issues facing the veterinary profession.

Check out Student AVMA President-Elect Elise Ackley’s new video on this great opportunity for veterinary students. She has participated in previous AVMA fly-ins and knows the impact veterinary students can have on Capitol Hill.

This year, 62 students from across the country participated in the event, which is hosted by the AVMA’s Governmental Relations Division. During the two-day meeting next spring, AVMA GRD staff will provide briefings on current issues facing the veterinary medical profession on Capitol Hill. Attendees will also learn about how lobbying works, the role advocates play in the federal government and the important role veterinarians can play in shaping public policy.

Educate and empower yourself to become a future political ambassador and advocate for the veterinary profession by registering for the AVMA Student Legislative Fly-In by January 18. Talk to your SAVMA delegates today about applying for the program and this terrific opportunity to learn and lead.
