AVMA’s Congressional Action Network (AVMA-CAN) traveled to the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Fla., last month to update veterinarians about legislative activities happening in Washington, D.C., and to recruit new members.
(Greetings to the new AVMA-CAN members who joined our grassroots network at the conference! We are excited to have you on board as we make our voices heard on Capitol Hill.)
It will be a busy few months for the AVMA-CAN. Later in February, the network is back on the road heading to Las Vegas for the Western Veterinary Conference. Then in March, the AVMA-CAN is off to Baton Rouge, La., for the SAVMA Symposium at Louisiana State University.
Back in the nation’s capital, AVMA’s Governmental Relations Division is getting ready to host veterinary students from across the country at our 5th annual Student Legislative Fly-in. We will spend two days briefing the students on the issues that are facing veterinary medicine and preparing them for visits with their Members of Congress. This group of future veterinarians is fired up about their advocacy efforts and making a difference. Look for more details about the student fly-in in the next issue of The Advocate.
