National Dog Bite Prevention Week Resources

Each year, more than 4.7 million people – most of them children – are bitten by dogs. There are 70 million nice dogs, but any dog can bite. This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week, and provides opportunities to educate everyone about dog bite prevention.

We’ve developed a number of resources to help you spread the messages about dog bite prevention, including articles, podcasts, infographics, and more.

The AVMA’s communication division has produced a new video reinforcing the importance of knowing your dog, acting appropriately around other dogs, and how our actions can help decrease the number of dog bites..

Visit our dog bite prevention page and National Dog Bite Prevention Week page for more information and resources.

We hope you’ll share this video and other resources with your clients to help educate them about dog bite prevention.

  1. DOGS CAN NOT SPEAK ENGLISH, THEIR ONLY DEFENSE IS THEIR MOUTH, TO BITE, TO PROTECT THEMSELVES & WE, AS INTELLIGENT HUMANS HAVE TO BE AWARE OF THIS IN ANIMALS & TEACH OUR KIDS WHAT/WHAT NOT TO DO…..YES ACCIDENTS WILL STILL HAPPEN, BUT HOPEFULLY LESS THAN IF WE DID NOT TEACH OUR KIDS. I DO NOT THINK A DOG/CAT NEEDS TO BE KILLED. THE INCIDENT HAS TO BE THOROUGHLY CHECKED OUT, & WHILE THE DOG/CAT IS BEING HELD DURING THE ALLOTTED TIME, THEY SHOULD BE TREATED HUMANELY, EX; A MURDER HAS CERTAIN RIGHTS IN JAIL, VISITATION, DECENT FOOD/WATER, OUTSIDE TIME OF CELL, SOME HAVE TV/GYM & OTHER ACTIVITIES, IF NOT IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT. NOT EVERY LAW FITS THE CRIME OR SITUATION & MUST BE LOOKED AT IN A EDUCATIONAL WAY. JUST LIKE ANIMALS WHO ATTACK/BITE/SCRATCH SHOULD NOT BE AUTOMATICALLY KILLED FIRST, THEN TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHY LATER. THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, JUST LIKE YOU & ME, WE JUST HAVE MORE RESOURCES TO DO SO THAN THE ANIMALS. IN TODAY WORLD, PEOPLE, JUDGES, LAWYER, PUBLIC ELECTED PEOPLE SEEM TO JUMP THE GUN ON WHERE ANIMALS ARE INVOLVED & FROM THERE THEY DO UNETHICAL DECISSIONS TO BE DNE TO THE ANIMAL, SOMEONE’S PET, A SERVICE DOG. i AM SURE THEY HAVE GOOD DAYS & BAD DAYS LIKE HUMANS DO, FOR AFTERALL, THEY BRED, HAVE BABIES, THAT THE MOTHERS TAKE CARE OF, GUARDIANS, FEEL PAIN/SADNESS, SHOW THEIR LOVE FOR THEIR OWNERS, EVEN SOME DO TO THE AWFUL OWNERS THAT ABUSE THEM ON A REGULAR BASES. IF WE DID NOT HAVE THEM, WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT THEM, SO WHAT I AM SAYING IS: BEFORE YOU JUDGE & SENTENCE AN ANIMAL TO DEATH, JAIL, SOLITUDE, ABUSE, FIRST LOOK INTO ALL THE FACTS….CAN’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER! & FOR THOSE WHO ABUSE, LOOK CLOSER TO THEM, ONCE ABUSED IS ENOUGH, TWICE ABUSED IS TOO MUCH, THIRD TIME, DEATH!!!! OFFICICALS ARE TOO LAX ON THESE ABUSERS, & DON’T FORGET, SERIAL KILLERS START OFF USUALLY WITH KILLING, TORTURING ANIMALS, THEN ON TO “HUMANS”….SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS, LAW PEOPLE!!
