2013 is a big year for the AVMA, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a series of events, promotions, and web and print resources. A lot has changed since 39 charter members formed the United States Veterinary Medical Association (the precursor to the AVMA) back in the third year of the Civil War. One can only imagine how those founders would react to the advances in veterinary education and care we see today, and the amazing growth in numbers and diversity within the profession.
To educate AVMA members – now 84,000 strong – and the public about the history of the association and the profession of veterinary medicine, the AVMA is rolling out daily bits of trivia through its Facebook, Twitter and Google+ social media channels. The roll out began June 10, to commemorate the date the association was founded in 1863. Every two weeks, we will post a link to a quiz based on the trivia that’s been posted for the past two weeks. Take the quiz, share your results through social media and challenge your friends to beat your scores! The trivia and quizzes will run through the end of the year.
We will also be holding a daily quiz show at the 2013 AVMA Convention in Chicago, allowing contestants to test their veterinary medicine expertise and vie for prizes. Visit the AVMA booth at the convention to learn more.
