It has been some time since I wrote about the Compass Mentoring Program, but it is alive and well in Connecticut! We currently have 17 recent graduate/mentor pairs and just had our second event on June 27, 2013. This event, held at St. Clement’s Castle in Portland, CT, had over twenty attendees including the addition of five new recent graduates to the program. It was a wonderful evening and the recent graduates in attendance had the opportunity to network with their colleagues and interact with experienced mentors.
For those not familiar with the Compass Mentoring Program, it is a pilot program that launched in Connecticut in October 2012. The concept for the program originated from the inaugural class of the AVMA Future Leaders. For more information about Compass, please view my previous posts from June 2012 and October 2012, as well as the June 1, 2013 JAVMA article regarding one of our successful pairs. The pilot program in CT is a collaborative effort of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association with additional financial support from Zoetis.
In more exciting news, the pilot program is expanding! Alabama hosted their kick-off event on June 29, 2013. Additional programs are set to launch in 2014. I look forward to seeing the continued success of Compass!
