AVMA expert explains use, need for antimicrobials in food animals

The Chicago City Council is considering a resolution that would support a federal push to ban some uses of antibiotics in food animals. Appearing as part of a panel discussion on WTTW-TV’s “Chicago Tonight,” the AVMA’s Dr. Christine Hoang discusses why the continued availability of safe, effective antimicrobials for veterinary medicine, including the retention of currently approved drugs and approvals of new drugs, are critical to ensure a safe food supply and improve animal health and welfare.
