The AVMA, in partnership with Zoetis, is offering TEN $1,000 scholarships for AVMA members interested in developing their leadership potential at the 2015 Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) in Chicago, IL (January 8-11). To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must fall into at least ONE of the following categories:
- Emerging Leader – Individual who graduated from veterinary school within the past 15 years.
- Underrepresented in Veterinary Leadership – Veterinarians from a demographic, geographic, or socioeconomic group or practice type that is underrepresented in US veterinary leadership.
Not only is the VLC the perfect place to learn how to explore and cultivate your leadership skills, it provides participants a chance to learn more about all the AVMA does for its members. Opportunities for networking with other VLC participants are abundant, including current AVMA leaders (such as Officers, members of the House of Delegates, and members of the Board of Directors) and state veterinary medical association Executive Directors and Presidents.
After participating in the 2015 VLC, each scholarship recipient will provide a summary narrative of what they learned and how they can apply this knowledge in their career. Just listen to what some of our previous scholarship recipients have had to say:
“My experience far exceeded my expectations. …I look forward to discovering over the next few months how I can use the unique perspective attending the VLC has given me.” – Dr. Danielle Johnson (IL ’02)
“Attending the 2014 VLC re-ignited my passion for our profession (both as a practitioner and AVMA member) and made me fall in love with this profession all over again! …I was looking for a new pair of veterinary shoes. I got them and they feel GREAT!” – Dr. Leni Kaplan (COL ’00)
The deadline for application is November 25, 2014. Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by December 5, 2014. You can download the scholarship application here.
