Congressional leadership: Don’t ignore the suffering of walking horses

By: Dr. Whitney Miller, assistant director, Governmental Relations Division

Time Is Running Out!Time is running short for the 113th Congress, but the AVMA is not letting House and Senate leadership ignore one of the most strongly supported pieces of legislation that they still have to finish before they leave Dec. 12. An overwhelming majority of members in both chambers support the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act, which is vital to end the inhumane and cruel practice of soring.

The AVMA sent letters this week to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) calling on them to not to hold this bill from reaching the finish line. Despite 365 members of Congress signed on in support of the bill, leadership continues to let partisan politics stop the bill from moving forward.

Do not let congressional leadership keep telling us excuses! Call or email your congressional representatives today and tell them to ask leadership to bring the PAST Act for a vote! America’s walking horses deserve better. Take action here.

  1. For the love of god, what possible reason could ANYONE have for NOT supporting this legislation?? Get off your collective asses, Congress, and DO SOMETHING!!

If for some reason you don’t think this is a big deal, I’m sure we could arrange to have someone stop by and perform this procedure on you. I’m guessing that might change your mind.
