The AVMA-CAN traveled to the SAVMA Symposium this month as part of its outreach to veterinary students. AVMA Governmental Relations Division staff educated veterinary students from across the country about all the opportunities available in Washington, D.C., from student externships and congressional fellowships, to the annual AVMA Student Legislative Fly-in.
We also updated the students on everything happening on Capitol Hill related to veterinary medicine. In addition to speaking about AVMA’s accomplishments in the 113th Congress, we updated the students on recently introduced legislation this Congress, including the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Enhancement Act and our work on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
AVMA’s Political Action Committee also held its annual Tap into the PAC event to educate and engage students in how the AVMAPAC operates and how they can become involved. Click here to see photos from the event or learn more about the AVMAPAC here.
Veterinary students are the future of the profession, and we hope that giving them the tools and knowledge to become involved in public policy will help create future advocates for the veterinary profession!
