Third annual AVMA Economic Summit helps veterinary business leaders navigate markets, improve day-to-day operations

AVMA-Logo-OurPassion200In an effort to help practice owners and other business-focused veterinarians understand the veterinary economic markets and give them the tools to operate their business successfully, the AVMA is hosting its third annual Economic Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at The Westin O’Hare in Rosemont, Ill.

Led by economists in the AVMA’s Veterinary Economics Division, the summit will explore three separate but related markets:

  • The market for veterinary education (veterinary students)
  • The market for veterinarians (employment of veterinarians among various types of employers)
  • The market for veterinary services (demand for services by animal owners)

The topics presented at the summit cover the division’s 2015 research and provide the first view of the  AVMA’s 2016 Veterinary Economic Report subscription series. The report series includes the most current and vitally important veterinary economics information to veterinarians and others with a stake in the veterinary profession’s success. It explores the many facets of veterinary economics, and helps veterinarians better understand the markets they operate in and the factors that affect their livelihood.

The summit will feature presentations from a variety of outside economists and other professionals,  providing analysis of topics such as pet insurance and wellness plans, economics of zoonotic disease monitoring and prevention, price elasticities of veterinary services and financial guidelines for companion animal practices. It will provide veterinarians with the first insights into possible strategies to turn need into demand for public and private practice.

A schedule of the day’s activities, which includes information about the speakers and presentations, is outlined on the AVMA Economic Summit Agenda & Speakers page.

Registration is now open. Registration is $299 prior to Oct. 1, and will increase to $349 thereafter. The registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and reception.

For accommodations, the AVMA-negotiated discounted rate at The Westin O’Hare includes complimentary guest room Internet service, complimentary shuttle to and from the airport, and a discounted rate of $15 for parking.
