Antibiotics posters can help educate clients

The CDC’s Get Smart About Antibiotics Week is Nov. 16-22 and is dedicated to raising awareness of the threat of antibiotic resistance and the importance of using antibiotics appropriately. Yesterday, we shared a link to our quiz to help you and your clients test your knowledge of antibiotic use. Now, in addition to the quiz, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve developed new posters that you can use to educate your clients.Careful with Antibiotics, Please!

The posters – one each featuring the kitten shown here and a dog that is every bit as cute as the kitten – help explain why your clients’ animals don’t need antibiotics for most ailments. The message: Talk to your veterinarian to determine if antibiotics are right for your pet’s illness…because they aren’t always the answer.

Choose the poster you like best, or download both. You can post them in your clinic or hand them out to clients. The posters are available exclusively to AVMA members, and we’ve provided both color and black-and-white versions, so they’ll look good no matter what kind of printer you’ll be using. The posters were developed with the help of our Task Force for Antimicrobial Stewardship in Companion Animal Practice.

The CDC offers additional resources for Get Smart About Antibiotics Week, including graphics, educational materials and facts about antibiotics.
