Keep pets safe with holiday resources from AVMA

The holidays are an exciting time, but from chocolate and baked goods to tinsel and trees, they can be dangerous for our pets. The AVMA has resources for you to share with clients to help make sure the holidays stay happy and don’t end with an emergency trip to the veterinary clinic.Holiday Pet Don'ts - Pets as Gifts

At, we have tips to keep pets safe during the celebrations. The page has advice on helping pets avoid household hazards that are common during the holiday season, such as food and decorations, as well as recommendations for pet owners who are hosting parties and visitors. It’s also important to safeguard pets during holiday travel, so the page includes links to additional resources related to traveling with pets. Feel free to share our holiday resources on your social media pages, or print them out to give to clients.

In addition to safety tips, we have other shareable materials at, including our Holiday Pet DON’Ts, healthy gifts for pets, and one of our favorite things about this time of year – the AVMA President’s visit to Santa’s reindeer. One of the most important parts of being AVMA President is serving as Santa’s Official Veterinarian, so Dr. Joe Kinnarney went to the North Pole recently to give the reindeer the green-light to fly. At our Santa’s reindeer page, you can watch a video of his visit and view his Certificate of Inspection, plus lots of other fun stuff.

We hope all of our members have a safe and happy holiday season!
