“The clients and the community around our hospital can actually see tangibly the patients in their own community that are being helped.”
That’s a powerful testimonial for the Veterinary Care Charitable Fund®, a tax-exempt program that allows AVMA members to accept tax-deductible donations to cover the costs of charitable veterinary care for needy clients and patients.
The program is one of the best resources available to help veterinary clinics help clients who might otherwise be forced to surrender or euthanize a beloved pet – and it’s available only to AVMA members, as a program of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation.
“The VCCF is a charitable fund that is geared toward animal hospitals in order to help out those clients that may need a little extra help in caring for their pets,” says Dr. Amber Ihrke, an AVMA member whose Illinois veterinary clinic made use of the fund to provide treatment for a rescued Chihuahua with only two legs.
“Chihuahuasaurus Rex came to us through a rescue, born without any front legs, and was only able to walk very short distances hopping on his rear legs,” says Ihrke.
“Through the VCCF, we were able to help him offset some of the costs of getting a cart. So now he can run all over the place.
“This is probably one of the most useful benefits that we have,” Ihrke says. “The clients and the community around our hospital can actually see tangibly the patients in their own community that are being helped through the AVMA, through the VCCF, through the AVMF.”
AVMA membership benefits support veterinarians in everyday life, both personally and professionally. Members’ voices guide the AVMA’s work to protect, promote and advance veterinarians, and to provide the tools needed to to enhance your opportunity for success.
