Dr. Abby Bowers
Dr. Abby Bowers is currently serving the AVMA through the Future Leaders Program. She also has served on the planning committee for the Veterinary Leadership Conference for the past 3 years.
Born and raised in Iowa, Abby received a BA in biology from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and then returned to Iowa for veterinary school. She is a 2007 graduate of Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she returned to her hometown and joined her father in a mixed animal veterinary practice. Abby is now a part owner and practices small animal medicine in this 4 doctor, mixed practice with her father and two other recent veterinary graduates. She really enjoys the variety of experiences of a mixed animal practice, even though she only handles the “small” animals.
Outside of working hours, Abby enjoys spending time with her family which includes her husband, Mark (an engineer for John Deere), and their new baby, Amelia (born in June), and of course Stevie the cat (named after the great Stevie Nicks). She enjoys being involved in her community, her church, and giving back to veterinary medicine through the AVMA and the Iowa VMA. She also loves traveling, although her travel schedule has slowed down since becoming a new mom and practice owner.
