Dr. Cia Johnson is an assistant director of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Animal Welfare Division where her responsibilities include equine and food animal production and handling practices as well as animal welfare related student/recent graduate communications and projects.
Dr. Johnson hails from southwest Missouri where, over her lifetime, her family has been involved in a variety of livestock production practices including: pasture dairying, market rabbits, pasture-raised hogs, and beef cattle production. In addition, Dr. Johnson was highly involved in raising, breeding, training and showing quarter horses with her family. Dr. Johnson earned her DVM and M.S. in Animal Science (emphasis Reproductive Biology) from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Immediately upon completion of her DVM in 2009, she accepted her current position at AVMA.
Dr. Johnson lives in Barrington IL with her husband, Robert. The Johnson’s are avid cyclists and can often be found out and about in the Chicagoland Northwest Suburbs either individually or on their tandem.
