Emily Patterson-Kane (PhD) is a New Zealand-born psychologist specializing in animal welfare and the human-animal bond. She lives in Schaumburg, IL, with her (Scottish-born) dog, Avon, and several tanks full of freshwater fish.
For the last three years Emily has held the position of Animal Welfare Scientist in the Animal Welfare Division of the AVMA. Previously she was employed as an animal behavior researcher at institutions including Purdue University, the University of British Columbia and the Scottish Agricultural College. She is co-author of the book “The Sciences of Animal Welfare,” released by Wiley Blackwell in 2009.
