A long time ago, in a land pretty far away, a small school opened in Lyon, France, that changed the way people care for the health and welfare of animals. The school welcomed the first class of students that would go on to become what we call veterinarians.
To celebrate this auspicious event, the AVMA and veterinary organizations around the world are this year celebrating Vet 2011, the 250th anniversary of the veterinary profession.
We kicked off this special, yearlong commemoration at the AVMA’s annual Veterinary Leadership Conference in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 7, and we are also planning many more special events over the next several months. The official Vet 2011 Opening Ceremony will be held on Jan. 24 in Versailles, France.
This is truly a special time to celebrate two-and-a-half centuries of progress, and we invite you to join in on the fun.
