Our Oath in Action

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation’s Our Oath in Action project, sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, is one way for us – the veterinary community – to lend a hand to those dedicated people who operate our nation’s animal shelters and provide hope to those animals that so desperately need it.

This year, as we gather in St. Louis, Mo., for our Annual Convention, the AVMF is seeking volunteers to lend a little elbow grease to area shelters who are in need of some tender loving care.

The volunteers will gather on Saturday morning to head off to one of four shelters in the St. Louis area – Clowder House, Five Acres Animal Shelter, Animal House and Stray Rescue of St. Louis. While there, we’ll help spruce things up, do a little painting, clean and repair animal cages, and offer other assistance that might be needed. There won’t be any heavy lifting, so anyone over the age of 13 – provided that parents accompany their children – is invited. Transportation, an Our Oath in Action T-shirt and lunch will be provided.

So why not take a few hours on Saturday, July 16, and join the AVMF in its fourth annual Our Oath in Action project? We’re proud that we can add St. Louis to the list of those cities where our efforts have previously helped make a real difference. The folks in Atlanta, Seattle and New Orleans really appreciated our past volunteer efforts. And we’re hoping that you will help spread our continuing sense of community to St. Louis this year.

  1. This is a great event each year. I have been involved with AVMA business meetings each year, but my husband, also a veterinarian, has participated the previous three years and has found it to be well organized, fun, and very rewarding. The shelters are so appreciative of the work done when budgets are so limited. It makes the environment for the animals and dedicated staff and volunteers working there much nicer as well. Great event! Kudos to our AVMF for making this happen. I would encourage anyone’s participation, as a way to Pay it Forward!

  2. I can’t attend, but I applaud those who organize and participate in these events. Keep up the good work.
