Ever wonder what the “NADA” number on a drug bottle means? Or who you should file a report with if a patient reacts adversely to a drug? Veterinarians utilize drugs every day in the course of their clinical practice, yet the way drugs are regulated by the government is a mystery to many veterinarians. We’ve worked with Food and Drug Administration staff veterinarians to post two FDA presentations on the AVMA website, about how drugs are approved and how they are monitored after approval to ensure safety. These presentations were given by FDA at the 2011 AVMA Convention in St. Louis to help practicing veterinarians understand the regulatory process.
For general information on reporting adverse events, view the AVMA’s “Reporting Adverse Events” page.
