Illinois and Georgia First to Issue 2013 Veterinarian Proclamations

July 2013 is Year of the veterinarian in Illinois - official state proclamation (PDF)As part of our 150th anniversary celebration, and with the cooperation of several state veterinary medical associations, we’re seeking gubernatorial proclamations declaring 2013 the “Year of the Veterinarian.” We’re pleased to report that the responses already are starting to come in.

The state of Illinois, home to the AVMA headquarters, was the first to issue a proclamation. Since Illinois doesn’t make year-long proclamations, they’ve designated July as “Month of the Veterinarian” – which is especially fitting, given that the 2013 AVMA Convention will be held in Chicago in July.

A proclamation from Georgia was received shortly thereafter. The Georgia VMA sent us a photo of Gov. Deal signing the proclamation at the association’s legislative day.

Our sincere thanks go to the state VMAs for helping us celebrate 150 years of organized veterinary medicine in America and recognize the great contributions that veterinarians make to animals and society.
