Calling all veterinary students—applications for the AVMA Governmental Relations Student Externship Program in Washington, D.C., for 2014 are due by Oct. 11.
The externship program pairs talented veterinary students with AVMA’s Governmental Relations Division (GRD) for an intense, four-week immersion program that introduces them to the breadth of public policy issues facing the profession and provides hands-on lobbying experience with legislators and staffers on Capitol Hill. It’s an opportunity to learn a facet of the profession that you won’t find in school and make a difference in shaping the profession at the same time.
This year’s externs got the opportunity to meet veterinarian and Congressman Ted Yoho (R-Fla.), attend the Washington Humane Society’s Bark Ball, and interact with veterinarians who work in the federal government. To read about more of their experiences, check out the Externs on the Hill blog.
