Student Groups Receive Financial Boost

The aspiring veterinarians who make up the Student AVMA are essential in shaping the future of the veterinary profession and the association. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. In an effort to meet the current and future needs of its student chapter members, the AVMA, the AVMA Professional Liability Insurance Trust and SAVMA are launching a two-year pilot program to help fund student chapter activities.

The new program – ALL for Students – will provide $7,000 in 2013 to each student chapter so that they can fund activities focused on community outreach, leadership training, professional development and wellness. The AVMA also will provide to the student groups guidelines on the most effective ways that each student organization might use the money.

The AVMA and the AVMA PLIT have committed $100,000 each to the program this year, with SAVMA contributing $33,000.

ALL for Students – the acronym of which stands for Achieving, Leading and Learning – provides a unified message of support to our student members and will help make them better veterinarians and more successful leaders. This is the first time student chapters have received this type of financial support, and the AVMA, AVMA PLIT and SAVMA believe their commitment and generosity will strengthen student groups’ abilities to serve their members.

We’re giving back to our student members knowing that the return on our investment will benefit the entire profession in the future.
