It’s no secret that the demographics of today’s United States population are changing. You might be wondering whether or how you can modify your work place’s environment to complement those changing dynamics and help create a more resilient, thriving work place. AVMA has new resources that just might fit this bill.
Our 2012-2013 class of Future Leaders identified an opportunity to create resources for veterinarians who want to increase their cultural competence. To assist veterinarians, the Future Leaders developed a set of resources making the case for cultural competency and providing their perspectives on delivery of culturally competent communications in different practice settings. You can also find a helpful recommended reading page among the resources.
Given the relatedness between cultural competency and diversity, the Cultural Competency resources are found within the AVMA’s Diversity and Inclusion area on our website. We hope you find the books, journal articles, videos, personal accounts and links to other organizations useful. And, if you’re an AVMA or SAVMA member and want to connect with colleagues in an ongoing, online conversation on diversity and inclusion issues, initiatives and ideas, we invite you to join our Access and Opportunity in Veterinary Medicine LinkedIn group.
