CWD Final Rule and Program Standards

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has finalized a 2012 interim rule that established a voluntary herd certification program to control the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in farmed cervids.  The AVMA weighed in on the interim rule in July 2012, and the  final rule went into effect April 29, 2014.  In addition, the finalized CWD Program Standards have been released and take effect immediately.
