Large-Volume Fluid Supplies Expected in August

In response to continued need for large-volume parenteral fluid supplies, today the FDA announced its plan to use enforcement discretion to allow additional imports of certain fluid supplies. In July, shipments from foreign sources were made available to veterinarians in the USA. Some large-volume units are still currently available through veterinary distribution channels. Next month, new supplies will arrive in the USA, according to the FDA. Specifically, MWI Veterinary Supply will distribute fluids manufactured by Sypharma Pty Ltd from Australia. Additionally, when available, Dechra products from Ireland will be distributed by Vedco Inc., and Henry Schein will distribute products manufactured by Baxter Healthcare Pty Ltd. in Australia.

FDA continued to emphasize that the pending shipments will not resolve the current shortage, yet the shipments are anticipated to help reduce the current disruptions in supply.
