In this installment of our occasional series on recognizing AVMA staff for their commitment to the organization and the profession, we are happy to share that Dr. Derrick Hall, our lead assistant director for student initiatives, has been named recipient of the National Gamma Award by Omega Tau Sigma (OTS), Gamma Chapter at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He received this award in recognition of his distinguished service to the veterinary profession at the national level. Derrick was the keynote speaker at the chapter’s White Carnation ceremony on Jan. 21, where he accepted the award and discussed his involvement in veterinary medicine and his varied career paths.
At the AVMA, Derrick’s student initiatives team serves as staff liaisons between the AVMA and SAVMA. The team provides support to SAVMA and the 36 local student chapters, which together include more than 15,000 student members.
Before coming to the AVMA, he was an associate veterinarian at the Northland Veterinary Hospital in Wittenberg, Wis., where he practiced as a large-animal ambulatory veterinarian. He also completed an equine internship at Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital in Oconomowoc.
Derrick is a 2006 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, where he served as a member of OTS.
