All of these webinars offer the high-quality education and trusted expertise you know to expect from the AVMA. Topics include prescription ethics, opioid alternatives, counseling clients about assistance animals, and the role of veterinarians in the One Health movement. Many of the offerings are available exclusively to AVMA members, as a free benefit with your membership. Selected webinars also offer the opportunity to earn free continuing education (CE) credit.

Prescription Ethics

Caring for patients includes making sure owners have access to appropriate medications for their pets. The next webinar in the AVMA Lead & Learn series will explore the role and responsibilities of veterinarians when it comes to writing and filling patient prescriptions, including: how to ensure your patients receive the care and medications they need; how best to work with pharmacists; and how some members of Congress are questioning the professional and legal obligations of veterinarians in prescription writing.

This free, live webinar is open to all veterinary professionals, with the option to earn 1 hour of CE credit. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your seat soon. AVMA members who can’t attend the live session will be able to watch it later as an on-demand webinar with an option to earn CE credit.

Opioid Minimal Anesthesia

AVMA Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Gail Golab will join Dr. Andrea Looney on June 26 for a live discussion on how to evolve anesthetic and analgesic protocols in the face of reduced opioid availability and concerns about human abuse. This webinar, hosted by Vetbloom, will explore non-opioid options that can effectively reduce peri-operative pain and stress, including oral medications, local blocks, and anti-inflammatories.

Veterinarians as Leaders: Counseling Clients and Others about Assistance Animals
This inaugural webinar in our Lead & Learn series explores the complexities of assistance animals and what veterinarians need to know to better serve their clients and assistance animal patients. Dr. Zenithson Ng, diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, discusses the importance of being able to identify various types of assistance animals; how to support access to appropriate animals for those with disabilities; how to counsel clients regarding the selection, training, and care of their animal; and how to prevent assistance animal fraud.

The Role of Veterinarians in One Health
Earlier this month the AVMA Veterinary Career Center hosted The Role of Veterinarians in One Health, a webinar discussing the One Health approach to global problem solving, and the many ways in which veterinarians influence, and are influenced by, the movement.
