In “Approved Veterinary Assistants: Untapped Resources,” you'll learn how approved veterinary assistants can help the entire veterinary team work more efficiently. Janet McConnell, co-founder of one of the first veterinary assistant programs approved by NAVTA (the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America), will address how an approved veterinary assistant can elevate patient care and enable other team members - such as veterinary technicians - to be more efficient. She’ll also discuss the education, skills, and credentials students can earn in a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program.

The webinar offers 1 hour of CE credit and is open to all veterinary professionals. AVMA members can participate free of charge, and non-members can register for $25. If you can’t attend the live event, the recording will be available for on-demand viewing on AVMA Axon, the AVMA’s digital education platform.

New on demand: Update on cannabis

Now available on AVMA Axon is our latest CE webinar, “Cannabis in Practice: A Clinical and Legal Update.” Dr. Jeffery Powers, vice chair of the AVMA’s Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, and Dr. Gail Golab, the AVMA’s chief veterinary officer, lead a discussion about the use of cannabis in veterinary medicine and the latest changes that have occurred within the regulatory landscape.

Learn about the history of medical cannabis, how cannabis interacts with the endocannabinoid system in domestic animals, what animal and human research can tell us about using cannabis in veterinary medicine, and how to recognize and manage cannabis toxicosis in animals. Drs. Powers and Golab also discuss important regulations and liability considerations for veterinarians, including the federal and state legal framework surrounding cannabis, and quality control issues with cannabis-derived products.
