Webinar explores diversity, marginalization and intersectionality

The words diversity, marginalization and intersectionality are at the forefront of many important conversations happening in society and in veterinary medicine. We may not realize it—or know exactly what they mean—but these concepts touch our lives in numerous ways.

Join us on Thursday, May 23, at noon CT for a live continuing education (CE) webinar that explores these concepts and how they impact us, our communities, and the veterinary profession.

In "Diversity, Marginalization and Intersectionality," Dr. Lisa M. Greenhill, senior director for institutional research and diversity at the Association of American Veterinary Colleges (AAVMC), will discuss these issues and how they relate to making our communities and workplaces more inclusive and welcoming for all veterinary team members. You’ll learn the meaning of intersectionality, gain insights from scholarly literature, and explore the notion that discrimination never exists in isolation. You’ll come away with a better understanding of the complexities that make up each person’s identity, and new ways to reduce discrimination in our own work environments and communities.

The webinar offers 1 hour of CE credit and is open to all veterinary professionals. AVMA and SAVMA members can participate free of charge, and non-members can register for $25. If you can’t attend the live event, the recording will be available for on-demand viewing on AVMA Axon.

The webinar “Diversity, Marginalization and Intersectionality” is made possible by an educational grant from Royal Canin.
