When disaster strikes, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is ready with help for affected veterinarians and animals. Moved by the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas and elsewhere, we’re proud to share that the AVMF Board of Directors has approved a $10,000 donation to fund relief and recovery.

The donation will be given to GreaterGood.org, a charitable organization based in Seattle that is working with partners on the ground to deliver emergency supplies, transport, and medical care to animals and people affected by Dorian.

You, too, can help veterinarians and animals affected by disasters. Donate at avmf.org/Donate using the AVMF Code “Disaster Relief.” Every donation helps the AVMF provide aid wherever and whenever disaster strikes.

Relief for all seasons

The funding earmarked for Hurricane Dorian relief is just the latest gift made by the AVMF to help those affected by disasters. In 2018 alone, the foundation provided $146,000 in grants for disaster recovery, including aid for wildfire victims in California, coastal residents inundated by hurricanes, and animals that otherwise faced starvation in Montana.

Earlier this year, the AVMF stepped up with a $10,000 grant to the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association to help veterinarians and others who provided care for animals affected by this spring’s devastating Midwestern floods.

The foundation also has grant programs that aid individual veterinarians and veterinary students impacted by disasters, including reimbursement for those who provide emergency medical care to animal victims of disaster.

Thank you, donors

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Dorian, and we thank all of those aiding the recovery. We also thank the donors who generously support the AVMF’s disaster relief programs. It’s thanks to your help that the foundation is able to assist those in need when disaster hits.

If you haven’t donated recently to support AVMF’s disaster relief programs, please consider making a donation now.
