Dr. Cheryl Eia

Dr, Cheryl Eia joined the AVMA in April 2012 as an Assistant Director in the Division of Animal and Public Health and Coordinator of Emergency Preparedness and Response. She provides technical and scientific expertise to the Committee on Disaster and Emergency Issues, coordinates the Veterinary Medical Assistance Team Program (VMAT), the AVMA's disaster response program sponsored by the AVMF, and engages in education and outreach on issues related to emergency preparedness and response.

Prior to joining the AVMA, Dr. Eia worked at the Center for Food Security and Public Health at Iowa State University where she developed educational and training materials for veterinarians and others involved in animal emergency management and response. She received her DVM degree from Iowa State University ('08) (Go Cyclones!) and her MPH from the University of Minnesota ('08). Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. Eia obtained a JD degree from St. Louis University School of Law and practiced law for a number of years.

Away from work, she enjoys running, biking, reading, knitting and spending time with her calico cat, Isabelle.
