Protect. Promote. Advance.

The AVMA on May 1 became the first veterinary organization in the nation to join the National Academy of Medicine in pledging to reduce burnout and promote wellbeing among clinicians.

By becoming a network organization with the academy’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Wellbeing and Resilience, the AVMA renewed an organizational commitment to improving the wellbeing of healthcare professionals.

The AVMA submitted a statement describing our current wellbeing work and future goals, including support for collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches that enhance wellbeing research, education, and practice. “Wellbeing initiatives are integrated in the pillars of our strategic plan,” the statement said in part.

The AVMA joins more than 60 other associations, hospitals, medical systems, universities, and professional societies in the Action Collaborative on Clinician Wellbeing and Resilience. The collaborative aims to raise the visibility of clinician burnout, improve understanding of challenges to clinician wellbeing, and elevate evidence-based, multidisciplinary solutions to improve patient care by caring for caregivers.
