Journey for Teams: Medical professionals

The AVMA is proud to join the World Veterinary Association in celebrating the 2023 theme of World Veterinary Day: promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the veterinary profession.

The World Veterinary Association created World Veterinary Day in 2000 as an annual celebration of the veterinary profession, taking place on the last Saturday of April. The 2023 World Veterinary Day theme celebrates efforts by veterinarians, veterinary associations, and others to advocate for fairness and equity.

Veterinarians take an oath to promote public health. In an increasingly diverse world, that makes it important for our teams to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of all clients and create welcoming environments for all co-workers. This isn’t just good for business—the wellbeing of all veterinarians is enhanced when DEI is promoted and applied.

From presenting on DEI topics at veterinary events and symposiums to creating programs and resources to help champion DEI in veterinary spaces, the AVMA is committed to enhancing DEI throughout the veterinary profession. Learn more about AVMA’s commitment and find a variety of DEI resources at avma.org/Diversity.

Join us in making a difference

Making veterinary medicine more diverse, equitable, and inclusive demands a concerted and continuing effort from us all. No one person, workplace, or organization can do it alone. The Journey for Teams program gives every member of the veterinary community a pathway to foster DEI in our workplaces through a comprehensive and collaborative program.

By committing to join the journey, you’ll become empowered to be a part of the solution.
