Pathways to Accreditation

The flowchart below shows, on a basic level, the process of accreditation of new U.S. and Canadian veterinary schools - from the initial decision to begin a program to the final accreditation decision. Please refer to the veterinary accreditation section, the accreditation classifications, and the Standards of Accreditation for more detail and specific information.

Please note that at any time during the process before full accreditation, the Council on Education (COE) may decide to withdraw the Letter of Reasonable Assurance or provisional accreditation status if the program is determined unlikely to meet the Standards of Accreditation.​
