AVMF awards $156,530 grant to AVMA
In June, the AVMF presented the AVMA with a $156,530 check in support of the AVMA's disaster relief efforts. The grant is to be used toward the Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams, distribution of the AVMA's emergency preparedness brochure "Saving the Whole Family" (available at the AVMA booth and AVMF booth at the Annual Convention), and funding of the position of the AVMA assistant director of emergency preparedness and response, currently held by Dr. Cindy S. Lovern.
"The Foundation recognizes the foothold that the AVMA is gaining in the area of disaster relief," said AVMF Executive Director Paul Amundsen. "We are excited to be a part of the 'solution' related to animal care before, during, and after disasters. We are especially grateful to The Iams Company, and those donors who made this grant possible."
The Foundation will continue administering its Disaster Relief Emergency Fund, which offers reimbursement to qualifying veterinarians for expenses incurred for care of animals affected by disasters, when owners cannot afford to pay for their services.
