AVMF accepting research award nominations

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2002 Excellence in Research and the American Kennel Club Career Achievement awards. These are presented each year, recognizing the efforts of veterinary researchers.

The American Kennel Club Career Achievement Award in Canine Research honors a candidate's long-term contribution to the field of canine research.

The honoree will be presented with the Tiffany award during the AVMA Annual Convention, and will receive a $5,000 cash award, round-trip airfare to the convention, and two days per diem.

Excellence in Research Award honorees will be recognized as those who demonstrate "breaking significant achievements" in a specific area of research. Nominees will be considered for awards on the basis of their recent accomplishments in the field.

The Excellence in Research Awards are the AVMF Avian Research Award, for research related to psittacine birds; Pfizer Animal Health Bovine Research Award; American Kennel Club Canine Research Award, up to three awards given; Bayer Animal Health Equine Research Award; Winn Feline Foundation Research Award; American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners Award; and the Pfizer Animal Health Poultry Research Award.

After selection, each recipient will present his or her award-winning work at a major veterinary meeting. All recipients will receive a $500 cash award, round-trip airfare to the site of their presentation, and two days per diem.

Nominations for these awards must include four copies of a one-page, single-spaced summary of research accomplishments, a letter of nomination, and a curriculum vita. Self-nominations will not be considered. Applications must be received by Aug 15.

The AVMA Council on Research reviews applications and determines the recipient. Nominees must be AVMA members.
