At the 2001 AVMA Annual Convention, five new directors were elected to the AVMF Board of Directors: Patricia A. Anderson, Dr. Mary A. Bryant, Dr. Thomas R. Mack, Dr. John Talmadge, and Dr. Owen R. Stevens. The AVMA Executive Board approves nominations made by the AVMF board. Terms are for three years, with eligibility for reelection. Anderson, Columbus, Neb., is the office manager for three veterinary practices. She began her service to the Auxiliary to the AVMA in 1992, serving on the Publications and Membership committees, as representative to the AVMA Council on Public Relations, as National Pet Week chair, and as president for 1999-2000. Currently she serves on the Auxiliary's Executive Continuity Committee and on the Auxiliary to the Nebraska VMA. Dr. Bryant is a 1995 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, currently practicing as associate veterinarian with Wilmington Animal Hospital in Wilmington, Del. She also serves as staff veterinarian and veterinary adviser to Eden Alternative, a program that incorporates pets, children, and plants into nursing home facilities. Dr. Bryant serves as Delaware's delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates and is an adjunct professor at the UP School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Mack is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has practiced at Bayshore Animal Hospital in San Mateo, Calif., since 1967. His care for animals includes volunteering with the Coyote Point Environmental Conservation Museum and the Peninsula Humane Society. Dr. Mack's civic dedication extends to serving as mayor of San Mateo and as a member of San Mateo's city council and library board of trustees. Dr. Talmadge earned his DVM degree from Colorado State University. He was an associate veterinarian with two clinics in Portland, Ore., from 1982-1989, then joined the Iams Company, where he is vice president, Veterinary Sales and Marketing, North America. Dr. Talmadge previously served as a director of the AVMF, until 1999, and has chaired the Dayton Auction Committee, which supports AVMF disaster relief efforts. Dr. Stevens graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College. He owns and directs South Berwick Veterinary Clinic, South Berwick, Maine. The clinic serves as a teaching facility for the University of Maine Animal Medical Technology Program. He has served as president of the MVMA and New England VMA, an AVMA delegate, AVMA treasurer, and officer of the AVMA Group Health and Life Insurance Trust.
