The AVMA will for the second time support the Global Initiatives in Veterinary Education program of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges. The Executive Board approved providing $15,000 in 2008 to the program.

The AVMA Committee on International Veterinary Affairs submitted the recommendation. The GIVE program offers competitive grants to help AVMA-accredited veterinary colleges and schools strengthen their relationships with veterinary colleges in developing nations. The board approved funding the program with the agreement that a member of CIVA would serve as a reviewer of grants submitted.

The AVMA supported the first GIVE request in 2006. The program's first project helped develop an international alliance network for promoting cooperation between the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and the China Agricultural University College of Veterinary Medicine.
