The One Health Commission established its first long-term office, which will operate from the Iowa State University Research Park.

Commission CEO Roger K. Mahr said the organization, which was incorporated as a nonprofit in June 2009, previously operated out of a temporary office provided by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. The organization needed a partner to provide leadership and a permanent location to build operations and work toward its one-health goals, and officials with ISU are providing that support.

"It is quite heartening to witness the strength of leadership put forth by Iowa State University and its one-health consortium," Dr. Mahr said.

The commission's move was announced Feb. 8. The office is located in the ISU Nutrition and Wellness Research Center, and staff members with the center will initially provide administrative support, Dr. Mahr said.

The commission was formed to "spotlight the connections between human, animal, and environmental health, as well as the benefits of proactive and collaborative approaches toward better health for all," an August 2009 press release states. The commission aims to become the lead provider of one-health information and inform people about the importance of the one-health approach, as well as to influence the way human, animal, and ecosystem health disciplines collaborate by aiding and promoting activities that show the value of a one-health approach, information from Dr. Mahr states.
