T.J. Lafeber Avian Practitioner Award
Dr. Yvonne van Zeeland (Utrecht ’04), Utrecht, Netherlands. A diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine in avian medicine and small mammal medicine, Dr. van Zeeland serves as an assistant professor and is co-chief of the Division of Zoological Medicine at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She is a member of the AAV International Committee. A past president of the AAV, Dr. van Zeeland has served as AAV conference chair and has co-chaired the AAV Trilateral Committee and AAV International Committee.

 

Research Grant Award
AAV Avian Health Grants: Dr. Jennifer Graham, Tufts University, received $8,735 for “A non-surgical method for suppressing gonadal activity in avian species using a novel antibody-guided lipid-based nanocomplex technique”; and Dr. Paula Rodriguez, University of California-Davis, received $5,000 for “In vitro pharmacological characterization of gapriprant and a multi-dose study in red-tailed hawks (Buteo jamaicensis).” Wild Bird Health Grant: Dr. Olga Nicolas Francisco, The University of Lleida, Lleida, Spain received $4,944.80 for “Non-invasive study of selected pathogens in the Pyrenean capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus aquitanicus).”

Marissa Monopoli, University of California-Davis, for “Hematologic reference intervals and comparison of Natt-Herrick and smear-based leukocyte estimation methods in cockatiels (Nymphicus hollandicus)”

AAV House Officer Manuscript Award
Dr. Ciro Cococcetta, Fregis Veterinary Hospital, Paris, for “Effect of hooding on physiological parameters and their evolution during manual restraint in Rhode Island red hybrid hens (Gallus gallus dom)”

AAV Innovator Award
Drs. Lara Backus, Pittsburgh, and Seth Oster, Auburn, Alabama, were honored for their work in launching the AAV podcast “Docs of a Feather” in 2021. Drs. Bob Cook, Cortlandt Manor, New York, and Thomas N. Tully Jr., Baton Rouge, Louisiana, were recognized for their work in updating the processes and production methods for the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery.
